Guests got to see the David Traylor Zoo like never before on Sunday.
The zoo was filled with educational and recreational activities for kids both old and young for its annual Emporia Friends of the Zoo Open House. Zoo Director Lisa Keith says activities included some off-limits parts of the zoo.
Event chair and EFOZ Board of Directors member Margaret Wright says the zoo really is an Emporia gem.
Zoo Education Coordinator Michelle Sagers says it’s a good educational experience for everyone.
KVOE News caught up with some local kids who shared their favorite activity during Sunday’s open house. For 7-year-old Kovin it was all about the bugs.
As for 7-year-old Grace, she describes what she enjoyed seeing Sunday.
Kids also took part in crafts, different games, t-shirt making and got some snacks along the way. The Sertoma train was also open for the open house and Family Fun Day activities at Soden’s Grove.
The zoo is open regular hours 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily and extended hours until 8 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays through Labor Day. The Zoo Education Center classroom is open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday through the summer.
