Favorable conditions made for an enjoyable day of bike riding at the annual Tour de Lyon County Sunday.
Nearly 200 cyclists sped through the Flint Hills vying for prizes and helping raise money and awareness for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Kent Schnakenberg with Team Schnak thanked the riders for their support.
Proceeds also helped local Special Olympics athletes including Dennis, a participant in the fun ride, who tells KVOE News the ride is good to him for two reasons.
Lyon County Undersheriff John Koelsch says one local lady also helped boost this year’s fundraising efforts.
Jad Sutton edged Mike Reynolds by one second to claim the top time in the event at 5 hours, 42 minutes and 31 seconds. Sutton says the conditions were favorable for riders.
Team LCG, featuring Lyn Blubaugh, Corey Smith and Garret Seacat finished first in the men’s/coed team race. Audrey Donovan had the fastest women’s time at 6 hours, 26 minutes and 38 seconds.
