TOPEKA — The state of Kansas is changing the lineup of managed care organizations available through KanCare, the state’s Medicaid program.
The state renewed contracts with Sunflower State Health Plan and United HealthCare. Instead of partnering with Amerigroup, the state has now reached an agreement with Aetna Better Health of Kansas.
Consumers using Amerigroup can choose one of the three current providers once open enrollment begins in October. Amerigroup will be a KanCare partner until its contract ends Dec. 31.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment says there were six candidates that submitted bids for the state contract.
KDHE says the contracts themselves have also changed, with greater oversight and accountability, improved response to consumer needs, enhanced care coordination and new value-added benefits as part of the package. The state is also rolling an employment pilot for people with disabilities and behavioral health needs, with that initiative also included in the contract.
