Isolated strong thunderstorms blew across the KVOE listening area Wednesday night.
Brief heavy rain and small hail fell on Emporia from one thunderstorm, which also carried potent but apparently non-severe wind gusts. Several small tree limbs came down as a result of the winds, with at least one downed 8-inch branch reported in the 200 block of East Randolph.
The storms also caused as many as 10 power outages — all in the Emporia city limits — for Westar Energy power crews to restore. Over 300 customers were offline into early Thursday morning, with around 200 of those customers along East Logan near Warren Way.
No injuries have been reported.
So far, the KVOE studios received 0.30 inches of rain, while the Emporia Municipal Airport received 0.01 inches from activity Wednesday afternoon.
The current forecast gives us a break from any thunderstorm chances until Friday night. After that, storm chances persist until Tuesday night.
