The Emporia City Commission met Wednesday evening for an action session.
Among the agenda items approved was a request for a minor plat and ordinance rezoning property at 525 South Commercial Street from mobile part the high density residential. The move comes as a developer plans to construct 10 duplexes to replace some dilapidated properties and some mobile home pads. City Commissioner Rob Gilligan says it appears the project will improve the aesthetics of the neighborhood.
The commission approved awarding an $840,851 bid to APAC of Kansas for the 2018 Resurfacing Project which will see improvements made on Industrial Road from 6th Ave. to the I-35 bridge and along Merchant Street from South Ave. to 12th Ave. Gilligan says the project likely will begin in July.
The project includes the transfer of federal dollars to help make the improvements, which are reimbursable.
The commission also approved an ordinance and beer garden request for the Granada Theatre for the Junior Worlds Jam block party on July 13.
