There is a potential for seeing our current drought conditions easing at least somewhat over the next week.
Shower and storm chances are now part of the forecast for the next week out. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says the forecasting models are calling for widespread accumulations, although the amounts may vary.
Any amount will help our current drought situation, with the US Drought Monitor showing conditions ranging from abnormally dry in Greenwood County to extreme drought across northwest Lyon County and much of the KVOE listening area to our northwest.
There is also a marginal risk of severe weather along and north of the Kansas Turnpike and Interstate 35 tonight, but Meyers says the storms should be winding down as they approach us. Wind and heavy rain would be the main risks with the overnight activity.
