BURLINGTON — It has been a month since Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station ended its 22nd refueling outage.
Communications Supervisor Justin Daily tells KVOE News about a third of the fuel assemblies were replaced.
The outage lasted almost 50 days.
In addition, crews upgraded the electrical switch yard with new technology and reconfigured it for better reliability. Several safety equipment components were replaced, and a cooling modification for the alternate spent fuel pool was added.
Daily says the additional work is part of the Wolf Creek long-term approach to make sure the plant operates at a high level. Planning for these associated projects typically begins several years before a refueling outage gets underway.
The next outage begins in fall 2019.
