The Kansas City Royals have traded right handed pitcher Kelvin Herrera to the Washington Nationals for a handful of minor league prospects.
Out of the trade the Royals acquire minor league infielder Kelvin Gutierrez, outfielder Blake Perkins and pitcher Yohanse Morel. Gutierrez, a 23 year old Dominican born player, was hitting .274 with six doubles, three triples, five home runs and 36 runs scored in 58 games for Harrisburg (AA) this season. Perkins, a 21 year old native of Arizona, was a second round selection in the 2015 First Year Player Draft. In 58 games with Potomac (A) this season he has a batting average of .234 with 11 doubles and 39 runs scored in 65 games. Morel is a 17 year old right handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic. He is in his first professional season after signing as a non drafted free agent on July 2, 2017.
Kelvin Herrera was 1-1 this season with 14 saves and a 1.05 ERA for the Royals.
Gutierrez will be optioned to the Royals’ AA affiliate Northwest Arkansas , Perkins will be assigned to the Royals’ A affiliate Wilmington and Morel will join the Surprise Royals rookie league team
