The Emporia Energy Gilpin 14 and Under Team suffered back to back losses Sunday to wrap up the Xtreme Throwdown tournament in Wichita.
The Gilpin team was defeated in their first game 2-1 by the Wellington Rebels. Emporia would open the scoring with a single run in the first inning. Wellington would quickly answer and take the lead with two runs. Emporia was unable to come back.
In their second game, Emporia rallied late to tie the game 1-1 but would ultimately fall 3-1 in a loss to the Manhattan Optimist Sweet Heat. Manhattan opened the scoring with a single run in the first and would hold Emporia scoreless until the third. Emporia tied the game off a an error in the fourth to score a single run. Manhattan would seal the win with two runs in the fifth.
The Gilpin team ended the weekend with a 5-3 record.
