ALMA — Another day, another scam.
The latest effort to take your money is being reported in Wabaunsee County, where authorities say residents are fielding calls from people claiming they have kidnapped or hurt loved ones and are essentially demanding ransom payments.
The Sheriff’s Office says the calls have been traced to out-of-country locations, although specific countries have not been listed. Scammers have made a lot of these kinds of calls recently.
If you receive such a call, do not agree to send payments and do not agree to divulge any personal or bank information. Instead, call your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible.
