Thousands flocked to the Rosalia Ranch Saturday in Butler County to hear the beautiful sounds provided by the Kansas City Symphony during the 13th annual Symphony in the Flint Hills.
Even though temperatures soared into the 90s Saturday, Director Christy Davis says that didn’t keep people from enjoying the beautiful backdrop.
Each year, the concert focuses on an educational theme. This year it was the significance of water and water conservation. Davis says the idea came about after they hosted a traveling exhibit a few years back on waterways and explains how trees can be bad for prairie land when it comes to water conservation.
Educational themes are already set for the next three years’ shows. Davis says the 2019 theme will be Jump Star and more of a celestial theme. In 2020, the theme will be focusing on limestone as a native material and in 2021 will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail.
