Parents of little ones were out Saturday learning how to get their child safety seats installed properly.
Child safety seat technicians with Safe Kids Emporia including members of both the Emporia Police Department and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office were on hand at the Staples parking lot providing free help to get seats installed properly. Emporia Police Sgt. Lisa Sage says it’s great information for parents, especially new ones.
Parents were also provided with educational material reminding them never to leave a child unattended in a hot vehicle. Bev Long with Safe Kids Emporia also stresses the need for adults to do a thorough inspection by walking around their vehicles when they leave their homes.
Some parents and caregivers received new car seats to replace old or expired ones. If you missed the safety seat checkpoint, technicians can schedule an appointment with parents by calling the Emporia Police Department at 343-4200.
