An Emporia man escaped serious injury early Saturday morning after authorities say he fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 35 just east of Emporia.
Lyon County deputies were called out shortly after 2:30 a.m. to mile marker 137 in the southbound lane. The 24-year-old driver drifted into the median and went into the north ditch of I-35 and slid into a fence. He suffered some minor cuts and scrapes and was looked at by first responders but refused treatment at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported and the driver was not cited.
