For the sixth straight year, Alex’s Lemonade Stand is open for business.
In 2011, then 10-year-old Alex Muckenthaler was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma. After undergoing treatment and seeing the generosity of community members and local cancer research groups, the Muckenthaler family decided to give back and has operated Emporia’s version of Alex’s Lemonade Stand since 2012.
Joe Muckenthaler, Alex’s father, explains all proceeds will go to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation where they will later be dispersed amongst numerous childhood cancer research projects.
The Muckenthaler family is happy to say as of 2016 Alex’s cancer has been in remission. Now 17 years old, Alex says he’s grateful to have an opportunity to help others going through the same situation he did back in 2011.
Over the last six years, the Emporia Alex’s Lemonade Stand has raised over $20,000 for childhood cancer research efforts. Joe says a big part of that is due to the generosity of the Emporia Community.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand will continue through Saturday at Good’s Cash Saver from 10 am to 2 pm. You may also donate to Alex’s Lemonade Stand by clicking the link here: https://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1441180
