Music and sunshine punctuated the first Wednesday market of the season for the Emporia Farmer’s Market.
Patrons had the chance to sample the freshest produce from local vendors before taking in one of two special musical performances in the 7th and Merchant parking lot. The musical performances were sponsored by Kansas Free For Arts and is just the start to a series of monthly concerts throughout the summer.
Farmers Market Director Jessica Hopkins says these performances are beneficial not only to the market but other groups around Emporia as well.
The evening began with a performance by one man band Brody Buster, after whom 2018 Kansas Music Hall of Famers Split Lip Rayfield took the stage.
Split Lip Rayfield is a vocal and acoustic instrumental group from Wichita, Kansas. Though they are sometimes classified as a bluegrass, alternative country, or cowpunk band, their music draws on a wide array of influences. They were just recently inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame as a part of the 2018 class.
There will be a featured concert once a month as a part of the Farmers Market through September.
