For the sixth year, Alex’s Lemonade Stand is setting up shop in Emporia.
Alex Muckenthaler was diagnosed in 2011 with Burkitt’s lymphoma, which damages immunity and can be fatal if left untreated. The Muckenthaler family has operated Emporia’s version of Alex’s Lemonade Stand since 2012. Alex’s father Joe Muckenthaler explained why they have been so committed to the national organization.
Muckenthaler says they have raised over $23,000 for the national organization over that time span, which is equivalent to 780 hours of research. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a 501(c)3, puts 85 percent of all funds raised toward more than 800 research projects into childhood cancer.
Alex and Joe both were happy to tell KVOE News this week that Alex’s cancer has continued to be in remission since 2016 and Alex, a senior is looking ahead to college.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand will be outside Good’s Cash Savers Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can also donate to the cause by clicking here: Alex’s Lemonade Stand – Emporia.
