For the second time this week, Wabaunsee County authorities and the Kansas Highway Patrol were involved in a standoff.
The situation arose at approximately 8 pm Thursday when a Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to serve a felony warrant on 28-year-old Justin David Spiker in Alta Vista Kansas. The warrant was issued in regard to an original charge of aggravated kidnapping and battery.
Spiker fled the scene on foot and a search was conducted by the Wabaunsee County Sherrif’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol. A community member had reported seeing Spiker return to his residence at 918 Main St. A request was made to use the KHP Special Response Team, however, Spiker was not located at the residence.
Spiker would later be apprehended, without incident, in Morris County. Further details are still pending.
This particular situation follows a lengthy standoff north of Harveyville from Memorial Day. Eventually, Justin Atwood of Topeka was arrested in connection to warrants out of Lyon and Wabaunsee counties. Kelsey Kaberline was arrested in connection to several Shawnee County warrants.
