The first-ever Quilts of Gratitude featured covering was formally claimed Thursday.
Glenna Nymeyer says she was overjoyed when she found out Wednesday. The reason? The quilt now goes to her brother.
The Quilts of Gratitude fundraiser developed after local quilter Rosaetta Fields said quilters participating in the All Veterans Tribute’s annual Quilts of Valor presentation, where quilters create quilts for local and area veterans, had to pay all their costs out of pocket. KVOE, Waters True Value and Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill donated $600 to get the process started, and local quilters then created the one-of-a-kind quilt for the fundraiser — which raised over $3,300 for quilt supplies and future quilts the past three months.
The quilt featured a 3-by-4 pattern of blue blocks on a white or cream background and separated by diagonal red-and-white strips on the front. The back features a fireworks-style red-and-blue pattern with a motif of a soldier and the words “Founding City of Veterans Day” in the middle.
