READING — The future of Reading Elementary is going to be discussed this week.
The Reading City Council’s Thursday evening meeting will be focused on giving the community space and time to discuss what will be done with the school. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Reading Community Building large meeting room.
USD 251’s Board of Education voted earlier this year to close the school to generate over $200,000 in savings for the district. Board members have said their preference is for the building to be sold. Future uses and potential paths forward were discussed at a joint City Council-School Board meeting earlier this month.
Reading will formally close on June 30.
