Special Olympians are gearing up for the annual State Games this weekend. In advance of that, the Special Olympics torch is coming through Emporia.
Local law enforcement along with Ottawa law enforcement officers are accompanying the torch from BETO Junction to Emporia late Wednesday afternoon. The torch then leaves Emporia for El Dorado on Thursday morning. Undersheriff John Koelsch says it will be a festive atmosphere on Commercial Street when the torch leaves town shortly after 9 am.
Once again, Ron’s Ride — KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas’ ride from Emporia to Olpe — is part of the ride from Emporia to El Dorado. You can still donate or pledge your amount by calling KVOE at 342-1400, messaging the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863 or emailing kvoe@kvoe.com.
