Repairs are nearly completed at the site of a water main break in western Emporia.
Around 7 am Monday morning a six foot split developed in a water main at Sixth and Sherman, causing water to flow into nearby drains at the intersection and a block east at Sixth and Wilson.
Underground utilities supervisor Mike Dvorak tells KVOE News the split has been repaired and crews have begun to patch the site of the break. Concrete has been poured and will set overnight. If the weather remains favorable crews will pour asphalt and have the patch completed by mid-afternoon Wednesday.
Eastbound traffic on Sixth had been down to one lane after the incident. Dvorak says it has not been fully restored, however, they have been able to open a passing lane for motorists. Traffic should return to normal after the patchwork is completed Wednesday afternoon.
