Candidates wanting to get on — or off — the August primary need to turn in their paperwork by Friday.
At the top of the ballot, Gov. Jeff Colyer and several challengers, including Republican Kris Kobach, have announced their bids but have not filed. In fact, the only Republican to file is Tyler Ruzich. On the Democrat side, Jack Bergeson, Carl Brewer and Josh Svaty are all formally on the ballot.
For area lawmakers, 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber, 51st District Representative Ron Highland and 76th District Representative Eric Smith are all currently unopposed.
Locally, Lyon County Commissioner Scott Briggs is currently unopposed. Several precinct committee positions are on the ballot.
Besides the candidate deadline, Friday is also important because that’s the deadline for voters to change their party affiliations. Unaffiliated voters can change their party at any time, according to Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat, but affiliated voters must make changes before the primary or general elections if they choose to do so.
