Local law enforcement officials raising money for Special Olympics are pleased with where things stand in that regard with the latest round of Tip A Cop-Tip A Deputy fundraisers done and the Law Enforcement Torch Run looming next week.
Thursday’s event at the Olpe Chicken House brought in over $1,000, pushing the Tip A Cop total to just under $2,000 after an event earlier this month at Bobby D’s in Emporia. Deputy Zach Shafer says attention now turns to the Torch Run, which comes to Emporia on Wednesday and leaves for El Dorado next Thursday.
Full fundraising totals have not been released after the Emporia Police Department’s Scramble for Special Olympics earlier this month. Fundraising is still ongoing through Ron’s Ride, KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas’ ride to Olpe on the 31st. Pledges and donations are still being taken. Call KVOE at 342-1400 or message the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863 with your amount. You can donate a flat amount or by the mile.
The State Games are June 1-3 in Wichita. For more information, go online to www.ksso.org.
