An exhibit about the cornerstone document that has influenced the courts and modern American law for centuries is currently on display at the Emporia State University Memorial Union.
A partnership between the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, the American Bar Association and the Lyon County District Court has brought the Magna Carta exhibit to Emporia. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt says the charter outlined many of the specific principles which attorneys use today.
If you visit, you’ll see some pop-up banners with different contents but you can also plan ahead for a more formal tour. To do so, just contact the Attorney General’s office or the Fifth Judicial District Court. Schmidt says they’re happy to promote it and educate the public.
Schmidt says that the traditions taught in the Magna Carta are very important and can never be taught enough.
The exhibit is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and 11 to 8 p.m on Sundays through the end of May at the ESU Memorial Union.
