Lyon County Commissioners fielded more budget requests from department heads during its action meeting Thursday.
The Lyon County Extension is requesting a two percent increase ($5,800) to its annual appropriation, a total of $297,800. One of the issues it’s facing is a five percent cut in its overall budget from Kansas State University, which comes out to $56,836. In addition, Hetlinger Developmental Services is requesting $36,500 from the county and the Lyon County Conservation District is seeking $30,000. Both requests are flat versus last year.
Commission Chairman Rollie Martin says he appreciates getting educated when departments provide their successes and difficulties. He noted the commission will take that information into consideration when the budget is finalized.
Lyon County Commissioners took action to approve water system improvements to Rural Water District No. 1 at a total of $468,270. Among those improvements is a water tower being installed. Bruce Boettcher (Bet-ker) with BG Consultants, gave a timeline overview on that project.
Lyon County is the budget authority of the CDBG grant for the project.
County commissioners also took action to approve a $12,555 bid from Street Smart to install portable rumble strips to slow down traffic for asphalt crews on various road projects. A $19,647 grant for the Community Corrections Spartan Explorers program was also approved.
