The public is invited to share how they’d like to see the Emporia Recreation Commission proceed on a potential renovation of the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
A public forum is being held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Little Theatre at White Auditorium. ERC Director Tom McEvoy explains what they’ll be seeking from patrons.
Some of the key points being looked at for renovation is with gym and meeting space and a redesigned indoor aquatics center to include zero-depth entry.
The Recreation Commission has said repeatedly that they’ve outgrown the space they’ve had with the current design and are also limited by how much space they can expand in. Gould-Evans of Lawrence has been hired as the architect. The Recreation Commission is still developing cost estimates before proceeding with any type of bond referendum that may come before voters either later this year or possibly in 2019.
