An early-morning crash Sunday resulted in one person being hospitalized.
Lyon County Deputy Danny Broyles says the wreck happened on Interstate 35 at mile marker 133, or near Emporia’s eastern city limits shortly after 2 am. The investigation actually started with the discovery of a woman walking southbound in the shoulder against northbound traffic. Deputies later identified the woman as Claire Brooks, age unlisted, out of Salina.
Brooks was apparently northbound when her car left the highway for unlisted reasons and struck a tree before stopping. She was taken by ground ambulance to Newman Regional Health for observation and treatment. The hospital does not release patient conditions to the media.
Deputies say it does not appear Brooks was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
