Lyon County is now searching for a new director of its Aging Services department.
Erin Starr resigned Thursday, according to County Commission chair Rollie Martin. No additional details are being released with this being considered a personnel matter, although KVOE News has been told there is no connection between Starr’s resignation and the ongoing investigation into finances at the Emporia Senior Center that developed in December.
Starr became director in July 2015 after the retirement of former department head Doug Stueve. She had spent time as an accountant for the Emporia School District, a manager at BETO Junction and an auditor with the state of Kansas before landing at Lyon County. Mike Halleran has been appointed as the department’s interim director.
Aging Services oversees the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, and L-CAT. It also maintains the county’s Senior Housing Guide.
