Following unanimous school board approval Wednesday night, Brook Medrano has been hired to take over as the Emporia High School head wrestling coach.
Medrano has a decorated wrestling resume, placing four times at the Kansas State Wrestling Tournament between 1996 and 1999 including three times for Emporia High before wrestling collegiately at Fort Hays State. He also has operated the Truth Wrestling Academy in Emporia, which opened last year. Medrano says wrestling has been in his blood since the age of 5.
Medrano takes over for Dustin Malone who resigned in March after four seasons after leading the Spartans to a seventh-place finish at the 5A state tournament this year.
