It’s the end of an era for two of Emporia Public Schools’ longest-serving administrators.
USD 253 hosted a retirement reception Tuesday at Mary Herbert Education Center for Assistant Superintendent George Abel and payroll guru Karen Yeager. Abel tells KVOE News why he choose a career in education and how he has seen the district develop during his tenure.
Abel has been with the district for 27 years and says he and his wife will start the next school year by going on vacation.
Yeager says she has many young people she plans to spend time with during her retirement.
After 39 years, Yeager said she never thought of her position as a job because she always enjoyed coming to work.
Tuesday’s reception was attended by faculty, staff and members of the Emporia School Board.
