Preliminary hearings are coming next month for an Emporia couple accused of a local marijuana grow operation.
First appearances came Monday for William Ellis, 36, and Octavia Ellis, 35, in Lyon County District Court. They now have separate prelims June 20 at 9 am and 10 am, respectively.
Both are charged with single counts of possession of paraphernalia with intent to manufacture or cultivate, use of drug paraphernalia and aggravated child endangerment. William Ellis has also been charged with a single count of cultivating controlled substances, while Octavia Ellis has a single count of cultivating a controlled substance.
The couple was arrested May 1 as part of a narcotics investigation by Emporia Police. Following a tip they were smoking marijuana, investigators obtained a warrant and allegedly found evidence of a grow operation at 1411 Lawrence, including live, dried and harvested plants, paraphernalia and guns.
The investigation continues at this time.
