Downtown Emporia transformed into a fiesta Saturday for the fifth annual Cinco de Mayo event.
Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow – also known as HOTT – celebrated Hispanic culture with dance performances, music, a host of vendors serving up authentic Mexican food and drinks, all while raising funds for scholarships. A new event was added to this year called the CincoK run, a 5K that began and ended in downtown Emporia. Lelan Dains with Dirty Kanza Promotions partnered with HOTT for the inaugural event.
There were about 50 participants in the 5K. HOTT President Sally Sanchez says the annual Cinco celebration continues to grow.
Casa Ramos provided the beer garden and nacho cheese fountain for those who completed the 5K. The annual jalapeno eating contest also helped spice up the evening.
