Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow’s fifth annual Cinco De Mayo Festival is turning up the heat on some contests.
The 800 block of Commercial Street will host the Cinco De Mayo festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. H.O.T.T. club president Sally Sanchez says the famous jalapeño eating contest is back by popular demand.
Food, live music and games will be going throughout the day as well.
The festival will also have the first CincoK, a 5K run that begins and ends in downtown Emporia. Dirty Kanza operations manager LeLan Dains:
Race check-in is at Gravel City Adventure and Supply Company from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with the race launching at 1 p.m. There will also be live music, candy, and a nacho cheese fountain for participants.
All proceeds will go to the Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow Scholarship fund, which this year awarded scholarships to 12 graduating Emporia High seniors. For more information on the event check out hottfiesta.com.
