Emporia firefighters made quick work of what was initially paged out as a structure fire Wednesday morning in the 800 block of West 5th Ave.
Firefighters got the call just before 8:30 a.m. after someone reported seeing flames coming from a blue house. According to Fire Captain Ryan Conley they investigated and found one house with an open burn in the front yard.
There was no damage to property and no injuries reported. Conley says recreational burning is allowed within the city limits but says it must be done within the city of Emporia ordinance.
The resident who started the fire was issued a verbal warning from the Emporia Fire Department.
