Polycarts will be down and the fire danger will be up Monday, thanks to another day of strong winds expected for the area.
As was the case Sunday, the National Weather Service has issued wind advisories for the KVOE listening area. Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in an advisory from 10 am to 8 pm Monday, while Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate advisory from 10 am Monday to 1 am Tuesday.
Wind gusts could approach 50 mph at times, elevating the fire danger to very high levels. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged areawide.
The windy conditions Sunday and Monday are a prelude to a stormy middle third of the week. There is a slight chance of storms and a marginal risk of severe weather Tuesday, although the better chances of severe weather will be in north-central Kansas and along the Kansas-Nebraska state line. There is an enhanced risk of severe weather across the eastern half of Kansas south into Texas for Wednesday, but there are a lot of variables in that forecast at this time. There is an outside chance of a strong storm Thursday as well.
Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media all week for weather updates.
