The Emporia State baseball team scored 6 runs in the 7th inning to break a 1-1 tie on the way to an 8-1 win over Northeastern State Saturday.
Northeastern scored the games first run in the 4th inning. Emporia State tied the game in the 6th when Brian Grove scored on a fielders choice. The Hornets took the lead scoring 6 runs in the 7th on 5 hits. Mason Brown drove in 2 runs with a single putting Emporia State on top 4-1.
Kaden Shaffer drove in 2 more runs with a double. Shaffer scored on a Trevor Turner single for a 7-1 lead after 7 innings. In the 8th Brian Grove doubled driving in Tate Kastens for the final run. Tanner Cairns was the winning pitcher, going 9 inning giving up the 1 run on 8 hits with 8 strikeouts.
Emporia State Coach Bob Fornelli said it was good to come thru with the big hits late.
The Hornets with the win are now 26-19 and 17-15 in the MIAA. They go for the sweep of the 3 game series Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 12 noon. It will be senior day. The game will be broadcast on MIX 104.9 with coverage beginning at 11:45am.
