Samuel Garcia is set to spend the next seven years in prison for his involvement in an alleged kidnapping and beating incident last fall.
Garcia was sentenced in Lyon County District Court on Friday. His sentencing followed a no-contest plea to single counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping and aggravated battery.
Garcia is one of two adults charged in the case, which developed after a teenaged male reported being kidnapped and then beaten at two locations south of Emporia on Nov. 18, including one incident at the so-called Rocky Ford or Bird Bridge near Roads 140 and P. The other adult, Andrew Granado, faces a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Monday on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated battery, conspiracy on those counts and aggravated robbery.
Three of the five juvenile defendants also are being tried as adults in the case. They include Armando Nunez, Selena Hernandez and Jonathon Manzano. Each faces a range of counts including aggravated battery, aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, conspiracy on those counts and aiding and abetting. Preliminary hearings for those three will take place at 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
