The Emporia State softball team extended their winning streak to 11 in a row and advanced to the championship semi-finals of the MIAA tournament Thursday.
The Lady Hornets opened with a 3-0 win over number 1 seed Washburn. Emporia State scored all 3 runs in the 1st inning. Kelsey Phillips and MacKenzie Thornton combined to pitch the shutout.
Emproia State then walked off with a 11-10 win over #5 seed Northwest Missouri State. Emporia State was leading 6-2 going to the 7th inning. Northwest would score 8 runs to take a 10-6 lead. Emporia State answered with 5 runs for the win. They will face 7th seed Lindenwood in the championship semi-finals this afternoon.
Both the number 1 seed Washburn and #2 seed Central Missouri have been eliminated from the MIAA tournament. The Championship game will be played Saturday. The winner of the MIAA tournament advances to the NCAA regionals.
Four Lady Hornets were named to the All MIAA softball team. Danielle Sprinkle, Annie Rockley and Destiney Ojigoh are 2nd team selections and Kenzie Garvin is a honorable mention.
