Arbor Day isn’t until Friday but a ceremony for the newest Mayor’s tree was held Thursday morning at C of E Park.
City leaders on-hand for the tree-planting included City Commissioner Bobbi Mlynar, former City Attorney Blaise Plummer and Mayor Danny Giefer who says he enjoyed being part of the annual event.
Josh Nelson, interim horticulturist for the city parks department spoke about the tree that was chosen.
This is the 31st year the city of Emporia has been an Arbor Day Tree City and Nelson says it’s the 10th tree he’s been involved with planting.
