The Emporia State baseball team out scored Washburn 8-3 Wednesday night.
The Hornets scored their first run in the 4th inning on an error. They added 4 runs in the 5th, all scored with 2 outs. Brian Grove, Mack Gowing and Kaden Shaffer each drove in a run. In the 8th inning Tate Kastens drove in 2 runs with a double giving the Hornets some breathing space.
Max Simpson was the winning pitcher going 8 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts.
Coach Bob Fornelli was pleased with the way they played.
The Hornets are now 15-15 in the MIAA and tied for 7th place in the MIAA Standings. They 1 game back of Northeastern State. They host the Riverhawks in a 3 game series beginning Friday.
