An investigation is underway after a Lyon County deputy’s SUV collided with another SUV in west Emporia on Wednesday.
The wreck happened at US Highway 50 and Graphic Arts Road around 3:30 pm. Nobody was hospitalized afterward.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating. No other details have been released at this time, including driver names or the situation leading up to the crash.
Sheriff’s Office administrators have declined comment so far.
The crash happened shortly after a vehicle fire was reported at Fanestil Meats’ Fresh Local Market, 4700 West US Highway 50. Authorities have not confirmed whether the deputy was responding to the fire call when the crash happened. Firefighters say a car developed mechanical issues and what appeared to be smoke was actually steam. There were no injuries with that incident.
