Area fourth graders from Lyon County, Chase County and Mission Valley were in Emporia Monday learning more about where their food comes from.
The Lyon County Fairgrounds hosted a “Day at the farm,” featuring everything from sheep shearing to spinning wool, a demonstration on grain safety by Bunge North America, conservation practices and other various farm safety elements. Lyon County Farm Bureau board member Jacuqelyne Leffler explains why reaching out to fourth graders is ideal.
Monday’s event included presentations by Bunge North America, Wingert Farms, Lyon County Conservation, Westar Energy, local FFA chapters, Southwest Dairy Trailer, Lyon County Extension and Kansas State Veterinary program and hunter safety with Phil Taunton from What’s In Outdoors.
