A near sellout crowd gathered for the Taste of Emporia event Saturday evening at White Auditorium.
And turnout was strong once again as visitors sipped and sampled wine, spirits, special brews and a variety of foods from 26 different vendors which included four that dropped in at the last minute. Emporia Main Street Director explains what makes the event work so well.
Becky Smith, owner of Twin Rivers Winery and Gourmet Shop says the event draws people from across the state and can help make businesses like hers a destination for tourists.
Smith says they used the event to debut a new wine just in time for the Glass Blown Open Tournament called Throwing Glass.
Radius Brewing Company co-owner Jeremy Johns was also back for the fifth time, offering beer, Fanestil bacon, and a beer cheese spread with pretzel bread. He explains what he appreciates about the event.
Flint Hills Technical College’s culinary arts program also was on hand this year to do a four course meal ahead of the Taste. Program Coordinator Brian Romano.
Other local vendors included Do-B’s, The Sweet Granada, the Brickyard 20 Ale House and Salsa Street Mexican Grill.
Woods says that the funds from Saturday evening will go towards the budget for the upcoming summer events.
The fundraising total has yet to be announced.
