The Emporia State softball team celebrated senior day with a doubleheader sweep of Missouri Western Friday.
They won the first game 2-0. Kelsey Phillips tossed a 3 hit shutout.
Emporia State won the second game 9-1 in 5 innings. The Lady Hornets scored 5 runs in the first inning, added a run in the 2nd and end the game with 3 runs in the 5th. McKenna Davis was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
Destiny Ojigoh, Katy Rae Nordman and Cassidy Beem each drove in 2 runs. Montana Mesler was the winning pitcher going 5 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 5 strikeouts. Coach April Rosales said everyone contributed to the wins.
The Lady Hornets closed out the regular season with a 9 game winning streak. Caitlyn VanVleck said it was a great way to end the season.
Coach April Rosales said they trusted the process.
The Lady Hornets have earned a spot in the MIAA post season tournament. They will either be the 8th or 7th seed.
