A trash fire that began in a burn barrel got out of control Friday afternoon in Bushong.
Firefighters from Allen, Americus and Dunlap were called out to the 200 block of West Third Street in Bushong just after 3:30 p.m. On arrival to the scene, multiple sheds and a garage were fully engulfed. Responding deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office located land owner Karen Rogers on the property trying to extinguish the fire.
After an investigation, it was determined that the trash fire had spread to surrounding structures and continued to spread. One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. At least five of the outbuildings suffered damage. Firefighters continued to hit several hot spots on the property including a wooded area nearby.
Total loss in the fire was approximately $50,000.
