The Emporia State softball team stretched their winning streak to 7 in a row with a doubleheader sweep of Northwest Missouri State Thursday night.
The Lady Hornets won the first game 9-1 in 5 innings. The Lady Hornets scored 4 runs in the first inning, added 3 runs in the 3rd inning on a Kelsey Phillips 3 run homerun. They ended the game with 2 runs in the 5th Destiny Ojigoh tripled to drive in the game ending runs.
Emporia State held held on for a 6-5 win in the 2nd game. Danielle Sprinkle hit a 2 run homerun in the first inning to give Emporia State a 2-0 lead.
Emporia State added 2 more runs in the 3rd inning. Northwest would score 3 runs in the 5th on a 2 run homerun and solo homerun. Northwest hit their 3rd homerun in the 6th to tie the game at 4. Emporia State scored 2 runs with 2 outs in the 6th. Katy Rae Nordman drove in the go ahead run.
Cassidy Beem singled in the insurance run. Northwest would hit the 4th homerun of the game in the 7th. Coach April Rosales loved the approach they took to the plate in the doubleheader.
The Emporia State softball team closes out the regular season with a doubleheader against Missouri Western Friday. First pitch for game 1 is set for 5pm. They begin the day in 7th place in the MIAA standings.
