Close to 150 acres of property went up in smoke as part of a grass fire Thursday.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says firefighters were dispatched to the area of Roads 310 and J, roughly 13 miles north of Emporia, around 5:45 pm. The fire burned for about three hours before it was eventually contained and extinguished.
The fire was in the Americus district, but both Americus and Allen-Admire departments were involved with other calls, so Emporia became the lead agency on this fire. Reading and Dunlap crews also helped to put the fire out.
