A two-vehicle wreck in central Emporia sent a young passenger to the hospital for treatment.
Emporia Police and EMS responded to the accident at 12th and Chestnut shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday. The caller reported a 10-year-old child was bleeding from the mouth.
According to police, 28-year-old Amanda Coltrane of Emporia was driving a pickup westbound on 12th Ave. and slowed to make a turn onto Lawrence Street. Meanwhile, 31-year-old Grace Ambriz of Emporia was driving a Jeep Wrangler behind the pickup. As the pickup slowed, the Jeep collided into the back of it.
Ambriz had a 10-year-old female passenger who was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with what the police report describes as a “non-incapacitating” injury. Both were wearing seatbelts. Ambriz was cited for careless driving.
Both vehicles were driven away from the scene.

A pickup and SUV collided at 12th and Chestnut shortly before 7 pm Thursday. Emporia Fire has confirmed a passenger in the SUV, a minor girl, was hurt and later hospitalized at Newman Regional Health. The drivers of the SUV and pickup were not hurt.
