KVOE began its mid-session updates with local and area lawmakers Thursday as 51st District Representative Ron Highland of Wamego joined the Morning Show.
Highland touched base on several topics and again mentioned his distaste for the education funding bill that passed both chambers and got Gov. Jeff Colyer’s signature this week, despite the need for a rewrite following the discovery of a roughly $80 million error in the bill.
Throughout the session, Highland has said more agencies are also calling for additional funding. Higher education is on that list.
Separately, Highland said a host of issues are yet to address once lawmakers return to action, including infrastructure, aging services and mental health. Highland says the money “simply isn’t there” to give these agencies all that they need.
Our legislative session updates continue next week during KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segments. On Monday, our guest is 17th District Senator and Senate Vice President Jeff Longbine. On Tuesday, we’ll be joined by 76th District Representative Eric Smith. We wrap up our series with 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber next Thursday.
