WICHITA — Three Kansas men have been found guilty of conspiracy as part of a plot to bomb Somali Muslims in Garden City.
Curtis Allen, Patrick Stein and Gavin Wright were found guilty of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and conspiracy to violate civil rights after word developed of a plot to bomb an apartment complex where Somalis lived in 2016.
Prosecutors said the trio were involved in a militia group called the Crusaders, an offshoot of the Kansas Security Force militia group, and began talking more frequently about an attack over time. Defense attorneys in the case argued the language was hateful but not illegal.
Each defendant could receive life in prison for the convictions.
